Cleaning Solutions I’d like to try

I’ve collected various home cleaning solutions over the years.  They all sound like something that would be fun to try, if only to see if they really work any better than the cleaning stuff you buy from the store…  but the problem is that I don’t have time to actually try any of them.  Maybe someday, right?

All-purpose cleaner: 1/2 Cup white vinegar, 1 cup ammonia, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 gallon water

Garbage disposal cleaner: 1 cup baking soda, 1 1/4 cup water. Mix and pour into ice cube trays, turn on disposal without water running. Add 5-7 cubes.

Powdered carpet cleaner: 2 cups baking soda, 1/2 cup cornstarch, 1 Tbsp ground cloves. Sprinkle over carpet, leave overnight and vacuum

Basic cleaner: Add 2 tsp baking soda and 1/2 cup detergent to 1 gallon hot water.

Air freshener: cheap liquid pot pourri and water in a spray bottle OR just spray some cologne on a light bulb before you turn it on.

Teeth Whitener: 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp salt and enough hydrogen peroxide to make a paste.  Then brush your teeth with it.

To clean oven racks: put them in a black trash bag with 1 cup ammonia. Leave in the hot sun for a few hours. Rinse with a hose.

Other things you can do double duty with

Save your peanut butter jars to store grains and beans.  It’ll keep the bugs out.

Make a pin cushion from scraps of fabric sewn over steel wool.  It’ll sharpen your pins whenever you use it.

Use TP or PT tubes for storing extension cords.  They won’t get tangled that way.

Use PT tubes to store pictures.  They will get all rolled up that way though.

Use Tissue/trash bag boxes to store plastic grocery bags.

Use an old coffee can to make a bank.

Make pillows from sweats and blue jean legs.

Hang pinecones from red ribbons for a pretty Christmas look

Use brown paper bags to make gingerbread men garlands

Thread white styrofoam peanuts to make a christmas garland

Look for coupons at manufacturer websites.
